This agricultural and livestock establishment has belonged to the Minhura Family since 1906, when Juan Bautista Minhura purchased it from the Australian Mercantil company, a company that belonged to the British Crown and was in charge of the railway network in Entre Rios Province.
Our grandfather, Emilio Minhura, inherited it as part fo the subdivision of Estancia Las Colas, and, in 1917, requested German park designer Guillermo Botrich to design the park where San Ambrosio’s humble homestead was originally located, an old ranch that dated back to 1800. In 1920, with the design of the famous architect Alejandro Christopherson, he had this Colonial Spanish style homestead built.
Through the years, and with the advent of technology, the cattle livestock explotation of Durhand breed first, and Shorithon and the Hereford breeds later, and the Ronney March shepp, sought to intensify its production in agriculturae and dairly.
The family has a long relationship with politics:there have been several Goveners, Senators, and Congressman among its members. Emilio was appointed Minister of Agricultre under President Marcelo t. Alvear Administration, this consolidating a close friendship between both families. Alvear, together with his wife Reguna Paccini, were frequent visitors of San Ambrosio, testimony of this is the Blue Ceder they planted in 1939.
Many well-known politicians have stayed at Sam Ambrosio. We could name Don Ricardo Baldin, Arturo Frondizi, Miguel Zavala Ortiz, Carlos H. Perette, Alberto AGarona, among amny others as examples of more contemporary politicians. It is said that is was in these gatherings that the split of the Radical Party took place, and many years later the appointment of Dr. Humberto Illa as Presidental candidate. Among its furniture is the desk where the “Tratado del Cuadrilatero” was signed between Buenos Aires, Corrientes, Sante Fe and Entre Rios provinces, on January 12th and 15th 1822, which aimed at installing peace and mutual defense in their borders against Spain and Portual menace.
We warmly welcome our visitors in the hope they enjoy their stay as well as this proverbial nature God has blessed us with.
Cuisine
As it occurs in every estancia, the cuisine in San Ambrosio has a very important, almost fundamental, role. We offer Creole and international cuisine, and often attempt at a merge between both styles. Our menu is organized in a varied and balanced way seeking a coherent gastronomy, with unique personality and flavors.
Breakfast is a large, with home-made bread, croissants, yogurt, cereals, cold meats, home-made jams and a variety of infusions.
Lunch and dinner include entrée, main course and dessert. We have a wide array of Argentine wines to go with our dishes, balanced in price. The afternoon snack includes fruit pies, home-made puddings and croissants that may be enjoyed by the pool. In the patio or park. In case of a river outing it is served on-site. The bar is run with the honesty bar system, where each guest writes down what they consume. In the case of specially prepared drinks, they are requested to our staff so that they may prepare them. The bar is located in the living room, where, before dinner, a small snack is served together with a tasty drink. The fireplace and quiet music invite our guests to enjoy this special moment after an exciting day of San Ambrosio.
